This holiday season marks 10 years since the brutal murder of Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner. Sharon Rocha, Laci’s mom, spoke out in a recent article about the difficult emotions and grief that the Holidays still bring to Laci’s family. The emptiness that everyday brings with out Laci and Conner, but especially the Holidays when Laci and Conner were taken from them and taken from the world.
I will never forget the first time I saw a picture of Laci Peterson. A beautiful, vivacious, and pregnant young lady with a smile that was so big and bright it must have been a source of sun shine for everyone who knew her. Just in pictures, one can tell what a source of energy, love, sweetness, fun, and light Laci was in the lives of her friends and family. A person can not look at a picture of a smiling Laci Rocha Peterson and not smile back. Her smile is contagious..A smile that she got from her mother and lives on through the few smiling pictures of, Sharon Rocha.
However, what the media never discusses and therefore the world tends to forget is the fact that the Peterson family also lost Laci and Conner Peterson that holiday season 10 years ago. Jackie and Lee Peterson, also lost their beautiful daughter in law who was carrying their Grandson. Conner Peterson was their Grandchild also. The media and the world never bother to acknowledge those facts or demonstrate any compassion for the grief and lose the Peterson family feel, especially during the Holidays. The grief, loss, and horror that both of these families endured and relive every Holiday season should never be forgotten.
Every Christmas Eve, it has been my tradition to light two candles, a white one and a baby blue one, in honor of Laci and Conner Peterson. I will do so again this Christmas Eve. My heart goes out to the Rocha and the Peterson families this Holiday Season.
